Hyphira's remix of "Apophenia" takes the cake as the most wild, vivacious and boundary-pushing of the remixes on the EP. The almost 10-minute track starts focussed in on BASS' bedroom-recorded stream in "Apophenia" before evolving into a fusion of hard dance, hyper-pop and avant-garde electronica. Also the co-producer of the original double single, the Melbourne based-producer, composer, audio engineer and DJ has an incredible ability to push the limits of dance music, constantly surprising us in this remix with tempo, tonal and stylistic shifts.
‘Text plays a big role in how I decide to construct my productions. I’m deeply fascinated with how the perception or understanding of lyrics shifts, as we place them in different musical or sonic environments. Rita’s lyric “trying to be human again” struck a chord with me, and seemed to so perfectly encapsulate what it means to move beyond a difficult time, the notion of blending in, camouflaging and sculpting yourself into normalcy. I wanted to create a work that sat within this transitory state, the moments where your lifting yourself out of a slump to find joy or pleasure. I find catharsis in listening to and making music, I wanted to harness that energy into a club ‘music’ context, but in a way that eluded to the unease and uncertainty that can arise from healing. I decided to to create a trance track that took the essence of the genre to the extreme, almost to the point where the genre’s ‘club’ context become questionable. I decided to incorporate of steep tempo shifts, abrasive sound design and sharp moments of silence all underpinned by a repetitive lyric, to create something that’s a little bit wobbly, much like catharsis itself.’
In their solo project, Hyphira utilises the medium of vocal-guide composition to interrogate the intersections between gender, technological embodiment and interpersonal connection, evident in their debut album 'Inner Folding of the Outer' which was succeeded by remix EP 'Folding Into Otherness'. She also works as an engineer where she has mixed and mastered records for various local artists (RITA BASS, Allysha Joy, Yollks), and holds mixing credits on local and international labels including Future Classic and Lobster Theremin.

Everything Octo Octa releases is just delicious. This EP is especially important as part of the profits are going to SRLP. In an increasingly anti-trans context, uplifting and supporting trans-led orgs is of utmost importance. And you can do so by listening to great music and supporting an amazing artist! éloi
